Subrogation Department Settles Spontaneous Combustion Matter for High Six Figures

Bill Schmidt, a partner in the Subrogation Department, recently settled a spontaneous combustion claim. The matter arose after the defendant used rags to stain a wooden fence. Despite warnings on the can of stain to properly dispose of and store the rags, the defendant purportedly placed them in a cardboard box under their deck. A fire subsequently occurred, which spread to a neighboring property and caused damage. Bill made a pre-suit demand and aggressively pursued the target defendant. The matter settled before Bill had to file suit for an amount in the high six figures, eighty one percent (81%) of the damages claimed.
