ATM Software Vulnerability Nets Six-Figure Settlement

Joe Kuffler, Counsel in the Subrogation Department, recently handled a case involving ATM jackpotting associated with a vulnerability in software that allowed bad actors to hack the machines and access the cash inside the machine. Prosecution of the claim was complicated by contractual issues related to the type of security/encryption required and arguments related to comparative negligence and a failure to mitigate. Ultimately, Joe was able to settle the case for more than $600,000.
