William Kennedy Appointed to Institute for Surgical Excellence Executive Board

January 21, 2020

The Institute for Surgical Excellence (ISE) announced that White and Williams Partner William Kennedy will join their Executive Board, providing legal insights to the organization; Keith Nahigian of Nahigian Strategies will also join, driving ISE's communications platforms. ISE is a non-profit organization that convenes leading innovators, hospitals and surgical societies to push the bounds of surgical standards to improve patient outcomes.

Speaking about his appointment, Bill states that he is "honored to be part of an organization that prioritizes individual patient care and strives to better inform health care consumers". As a member of the Board, Bill and other members will, according to Interim Executive Director Dr. Jeff Levy, "work closely with societies, institutions, surgeons and patients to identify issues, set clearly defined goals, facilitate collaboration and better inform health care consumers about this life-changing technology."

Bill defends healthcare providers, medical device manufacturers, pharmaceutical firms, senior care organizations and a wide range of others against complex claims of significant injury and damage. A successful trial and appellate attorney, Bill has served on the boards of a number of continuing care retirement communities around the country. Bill also counsels organizations on reducing the risk of abuse of children and youth.

Other members of the ISE Executive Board include Jeffrey Levy, MD, founder and CEO of CaseNetwork; Martin Martino, MD, Gynecologic Oncologist at Lehigh Valley Health Network, and professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Southern Florida; John Porterfield, MD, associate professor in the Department of Surgery, School of Medicine, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham; Dr. Carla Pugh, MD, PhD, professor of surgery at the Stanford School of Medicine; and Dimitrios Stefandis, MD, PhD, FACS, FASMBS, professor of surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine, and chief of Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery and vice chair of education for the Department of Surgery.
