White and Williams Adopts Laura Wheeler Waring School in Philadelphia

October 26, 2016

Laura Wheeler Waring Adoption Kick OffWhite and Williams is excited to announce its adoption of the Laura Wheeler Waring School, a K-8 school in The School District of Philadelphia. The adoption kicked off on October 26th, when the firm donated $10,000 to be used towards the purchase of books for classroom libraries at a school assembly. In addition, throughout the school year White and Williams lawyers will visit the school's classrooms for reading days with the students.

"The entire school is excited to work with White and Williams for the next year," said Laura Wheeler Waring Principal, April Brown. "The generous donation towards books for classroom libraries will help advance the reading skills of our students and better prepare them for the future."

Many students in urban school systems, including those at Laura Wheeler Waring, are not able to afford their own books. Access to books inspires a reading culture that can develop the passion for lifelong learning. The goal in providing classroom libraries is to build a foundation of excitement around education and instill positive reading habits and behavior.

"We look forward to working with and supporting the future success of the students at the Laura Wheeler Waring School," said Patti Santelle, Managing Partner of the firm. "By supplying books for classroom libraries and hosting reading days, we are helping these students establish a better foundation for a brighter future."

The Laura Wheeler Waring School is one of three schools currently adopted by the firm as part of its Adopt-a-School Initiative and is the third in the Initiative's history to come from The School District of Philadelphia. The Adopt-a-School Initiative began in 2012 as a way for the firm to give back to local communities, invest in education and provide a unique opportunity for lawyers and staff to engage through the investment of time, finances and resources.
