White and Williams Spreads Love of Reading to Adopted School
In celebration of Read Across America Day 2016, White and Williams looks back on this year's Reading Days with Philadelphia's Chester A. Arthur School, which is adopted by the firm. Twenty-two lawyers and staff members visited first and second grade classrooms of Chester Arthur over the course of the 2015-2016 school year to spread the love of reading to students. At each Reading Day, students divided into small groups and paired with a White and Williams' lawyer or staff member to read and discuss a story book. The books included It Looked Like Spilt Milk, Henry and Mudge: The First Book, and Frog and Toad Are Friends. At the conclusion of each Reading Day, the students received a copy of the book to take home.
White and Williams’ adoption of Chester A. Arthur School began in May 2014 with a $10,000 donation for the purchase of Google Chromebooks for middle school students and the firm has since maintained a relationship with the school, including welcoming students to the Philadelphia office for a career day discussion and a school supply drive. The White and Williams Adopt-a-School Initiative, launched as a way to give back to the local community, was recognized among global law firms by the Legal Marketing Association's Your Honors Awards program in the Community Relations category at the 2015 National Conference.
