Crisis Communications: Legal Theory and Practical Application

2012 Managing Risk for Boarding Schools, Wilmington, DE | June 21, 2012

The Association for Boarding Schools (TABS) 2012 Managing Risk Workshop will be held on June 20 - 21 at the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington, DE. Nancy Conrad, Chair of the Education Law Practice Group, along with Cathy Skitko, Director of Communications for the Hill School, will discuss crisis communications.

Crisis Communications: Legal Theory and Practical Application

Every school has its share of unfortunate, unpleasant, and at times, scandalous news.  Despite clear policies, explicit conduct codes and careful supervision, tragic accidents, sexual misconduct, and situations completely beyond a school’s control do happen.  How a school responds to and communicates about a crisis can result in a public relations nightmare or a message of competency and integrity.  This session will focus on effective crisis anticipation and communication and legal considerations related to the response and the message.
