Background Check Best Practices
Debbie Sandler, Partner in the Labor and Employment Group, will present Background Check Best Practices at the "DRI Sexual Torts Seminar." Presented by DRI's Employment and Labor Law Committee, Insurance Law Committee, and Medical Liability and Health Care Law Committee, the two-day seminar is designed to educate defense counsel, insurance professionals, in-house litigation specialists, and others involved in the evaluation and defense of sexual tort actions about the range of concerns involved with such claims; to improve their ability to assist clients in minimizing civil exposure; and to equip them to confront and defend lawsuits in the course of discovery and motion practice, during settlement negotiations, and before a jury.
Debbie's program will discuss the many valid reasons for using criminal background checks to screen applicants for positions and to make employment decisions and will address the most recent EEOC guidance on targeted screens, individualized assessments, and best practices. The new summary of rights requirements under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, effective January 1, 2013, will also be covered.
