The opioid crisis has been a particular thorn in the side of workers’ compensation employers and carriers. The costs can be astronomical with no end in sight, due to the addiction these drugs can create. This problem is receiving increased attention from local and federal authorities. On July 16, 2018, Governor Tom Wolf issued “guidelines” for prescription medications. These are only guidelines, but they should prove to be useful in evaluating the prescriptions that an injured worker’s doctor often prescribes.

The guidelines can be viewed here.
