Zaara focuses her practice on complex litigation, contractual disputes and premises liability for financial institutions, large corporations and insurance companies. Zaara also represents life, health and disability insurers in New Jersey and New York in a wide range of matters. Zaara handles issues involving breach of contract, breach of good faith and fair dealing, bad faith, indemnification, defamation, and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.

Prior to joining the firm, Zaara worked in the Office of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Rutgers University where she oversaw outside counsel’s work on litigation matters, drafted and negotiated contracts for internal departments, and advised internal departments on regulatory and statutory compliance. This experience allows Zaara to understand and address the needs of in-house councsel. Zaara also worked at New Jersey litigation firms and served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Phillip L. Paley in the Civil Division in Middlesex County Superior Court.

During Law School Zaara was elected Editor-in-Chief of the Rutgers Race and the Law Review and was selected as a Teaching Associate for Legal Research and Writing. Zaara was a Law School Intern for the Consumer Fraud Prosecution Division at the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General and also served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Tonianne J. Bongiovanni in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Representative Matters

  • Part of the team that obtained a published opinion from the New Jersey Appellate Division granting a protective order in a matter wherein several hospitals were seeking intrusive discovery concerning the creation and implementation of a health plan (Capital Health System Inc., v. Horizon Healthcare Services Inc., NJ App. Div. A-2913-15 (June 23, 2016))
  • Part of the team that obtained a dismissal of claims brought by the Association of New Jersey Chiropractors alleging that a health coverage plan creates unfair business advantage against them (Assoc. of NJ Chiropractors v. Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, SOM- L-1211-16) (affirmed upon appeal)
  • Obtained dismissal of a claim of first impression brought against a client for negligent misidentification (Dwight Morris v. TD Bank, UNN-L-796-15)
  • Handled complex premises liability matters, including discrimination matters and wrongful detention matters

Recognition & Involvement

Zaara is an Advisory Board Member and mentor with the New Jersey Law & Education Empowerment Program (NJ LEEP). NJ LEEP was founded in 2006 to empower youth from underserved neighborhoods in northern New Jersey to greater educational achievement through a three-fold focus on skills, habits and exposure. NJ LEEP combines law-related education programming with college access programming.

Zaara is also a mentor with a joint mentoring program organized by the Rutgers Law School Alumni Association and Women’s Law Forum. Through this program she provides mentoring to law students at Rutgers Law School. 

In addition, Zaara is an active participant in pro bono work and has provided pro bono legal services in connection with the firm's partnership with the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Zaara received a 2021 Best Lawyers: Ones To Watch recognition for her work in Commercial Litigation and Insurance Law.
