Steve Hansen has significant experience representing national and international corporations in complex litigation matters in state and federal court. His diverse practice includes the representation of businesses in product liability, toxic tort, consumer class actions, employment and commercial disputes. Steve also has developed particular experience in the automotive, industrial machine and pharmaceutical industries.
Steve has acted as discovery liaison for distributors of generic pharmaceuticals in “failure to warn” mass tort litigation in multiple jurisdictions. He has assisted both large companies and small businesses in their response to wage and hour and employment discrimination claims, including putative class and collective actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Massachusetts Wage Act. He has also represented both employers and employees in administrative hearings and appeals concerning retirement, accidental disability and unemployment benefits in Connecticut and Massachusetts. He frequently consults on and acts as local counsel in matters pending in the state and federal courts of Connecticut.
- Argued successfully before the Connecticut Appellate Court on behalf of national bank concerning federal preemption of state licensing requirements for bank subsidiaries
- Drafted successful summary judgment motions on behalf of automotive manufacturers defeating claims of defective airbag sensing systems in both deployment and non-deployment scenarios
Recognition & Involvement
In 2013, Steve attended the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) Trial Academy at Stanford University School of Law. Since 2013, he has been a voluntary attorney with the Discovering Justice program, a Boston-based civic education non-profit organization that pairs attorney teams with area schools to teach students about the justice system and prepare students to participate in Mock Trial and Moot Court programs. Steve has been heavily involved in the Massachusetts Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, rising from the Young Lawyers’ Division to become a full member of the Chapter Executive Board and Secretary for the organization.
Steve was selected in a survey of his peers as a Massachusetts "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers in 2018.
