Sean Callaghan’s litigation practice is diverse. Representing both plaintiffs and defendants, Sean’s cases include catastrophic construction accidents and disputes over insurance coverages and commercial contracts. His pro bono practice includes federal and constitutional civil-rights claims.

With experience both at trial and on appeal—in both federal and state fora—Sean seeks to apply creative legal theories and detailed factual arguments to ensure his clients’ success. With this commitment, Sean has helped secure litigation wins in federal courts and settlement wins in multimillion-dollar matters.

Before a federal judicial clerkship during the 2016–17 term with the Honorable Debra M. Brown, District Judge of the Northern District of Mississippi, Sean worked as a legal fellow for a Washington, D.C., private practice and served as an assistant attorney general for the District of Columbia’s Attorney General’s Office. In law school, Sean summered with the United States Department of Justice.

In law school, Sean won the 2014 Upper-Level Mock Trial Tournament and served on the George Washington International Law Review. He also served as a staff editor of the Law Review’s Guide to International Legal Research.

At graduation, Sean was awarded President Obama’s Volunteer Service Award for completing the second-most pro bono hours in his graduating class and was awarded by the faculty of The George Washington University Law School the Class of 2015 Estrella Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy.
