Laura’s practice includes cybersecurity and privacy law, insurance coverage litigation, bad faith litigation, and insurance contract disputes. Her practice focuses on advising national and regional companies on cybersecurity and privacy issues and representing major national and international insurance companies in coverage disputes and complex commercial litigation around the country.

Laura has experience advising clients on drafting and preparing a cybersecurity incident response plan and responding to data breaches and cybersecurity threats, including communicating with law enforcement and prosecutors. Laura also has experience litigating and advising clients on various coverage issues, including the impact of bankruptcy proceedings on insurance coverage and the application of pollution exclusions on underlying claims. 

Laura has earned the ANSI-accredited Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) credential through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). With the CIPP/US certification, Laura has a strong foundation in U.S. private-sector privacy laws and regulations and understanding of the legal requirements for the responsible transfer of sensitive personal data to/from the U.S., the EU and other jurisdictions.

Laura also regularly writes on issues related to cybersecurity and privacy law, such as the New York Department of Financial Services’ cybersecurity regulations, judicial decisions regarding cyber insurance, and the EU-US Privacy Shield. She is a frequent contributor to White and Williams’ cyber blog Cyber News – Cyber Law News and Bytes.

While in law school, Laura was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society and a finalist in the Samuel Polsky Moot Court Competition. In 2013, she received the Honorable Thomas L. Ambro Fellowship from the Delaware Bankruptcy American Inn of Court and interned with each of the Judges of the Delaware Bankruptcy Court. She also interned for the Honorable C. Darnell Jones II in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. In her final year of law school, Laura worked as a law clerk for an insurance defense firm and assisted in developing articles and white papers on current issues in insurance coverage. Laura is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

Representative Matters

  • Assisted client with preparing a cybersecurity incident response plan that identified key leaders, responsibilities of different teams, and procedures for responding to cybersecurity threats
  • Counseled specialized insurer on coverage for third party seeking coverage as additional insured for underlying bodily injury involving exposure to benzene
  • Assisted client in responding to a data breach involving theft of employee information using a “spoofing” scam by preparing data breach notification letter, alerting credit reporting agencies, and communicating to law enforcement
  • Achieved significant ruling that third party did not have standing to sue insurer directly based on a stipulation obtained in policyholder’s bankruptcy to lift the automatic stay
  • Assisted client in responding to a potential identity theft incident involving a former employee by communicating to local law enforcement and prosecutors, guiding investigation, and determining notification responsibilities under state and federal law
  • Represented insurer in New Jersey state court coverage action involving environmental pollution at policyholder’s former chemical manufacturing facility

Recognition & Involvement

Laura provides volunteer legal services through the Philadelphia VIP Pro Bono Organization and the Nationalities Service Center. Laura is also a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and the American Bar Association’s Section of International Law Privacy, E-Commerce and Data Security Committee.
