Greg Steinberg represents foreign and domestic insurers in connection with coverage issues arising under major professional liability lines. His experience includes counseling, litigation, and alternative dispute resolution involving directors and officers, financial institutions, cyber risk, technology errors and omissions, and other professional liability coverages.

Greg has developed a unique knowledge of the insurance industry, and works with his clients to develop practical and efficient solutions to complex coverage issues. Greg counsels insurers in connection with underlying securities class actions, shareholder derivative actions, private equity disputes, regulatory investigations, and bankruptcy and insolvency issues arising in the insurance context. Greg’s experience includes representing and advising insurers with respect to coverage and liability issues in connection with the ongoing opioid-related multidistrict litigation. Greg has also advised insurers in connection with insurance issues arising in the context of initial coin offerings (ICOs).

Greg regularly counsels insurance company clients with respect to claims and underwriting matters, and works with insurers on developing new insurance products and drafting policy forms. Greg is a frequent writer on issues of interest to professional liability insurers, particularly with respect to court rulings across the country on significant coverage issues and how these decisions impact insurers’ coverage obligations.

Representative Matters

  • Represented primary and excess insurers as coverage and monitoring counsel in connection with D&O and E&O coverage for large financial institutions

  • Representing Tech E&O insurer as coverage counsel in connection with large opioid-related multidistrict litigation (MDL) presenting significant coverage and exposure issues

  • Handled numerous claims as coverage and monitoring counsel in connection with claims involving errors and omissions committed by mortgage brokers and bankers, lawyers, real estate agents, insurance agents and brokers, home inspectors, debt collectors, title agents, technical consultants, and other miscellaneous professional classes

  • Represented a foreign insurer in a subrogation action venued in Arizona to recover damages in a products liability action

  • Represented Excess and Lead Side-A DIC insurers in complex, high exposure civil and criminal matters involving issues such as Side-A coverage trigger, professional services exclusions, and DIC Events

  • Represented primary E&O insurer in a declaratory judgment action pending in the Southern District of New York with respect to claims-made and prior knowledge coverage issues

Recognition & Involvement

Greg was selected in a survey of his peers as a New York "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers from 2016 through 2018. 

Greg is an active member of New York Road Runners (NYRR) Team for Kids, an organization which helps bring free running and fitness programs to students across the country, and is a mentor in the Brooklyn Law School Alumni Mentor Program.
