Felix Yelin currently focuses his practice on representing insurers in first and third-party insurance coverage matters, as well as handling appeals at both the federal and state level in varied substantive areas of the law. He is a member of the Appellate, Insurance Coverage and Bad Faith, Class Actions, Construction and Surety, Litigation, Product Liability, and Toxic Torts and Environmental practice groups. He also has extensive experience representing corporate clients in high-exposure product liability and toxic tort disputes in jurisdictions throughout the United States.

Felix has recently published and lectured on constitutional issues involving COVID-19 business interruption litigation and related legislative attempts to force insurers to cover such losses despite contrary policy language.

Felix also has experience as part of multiple multi-state, multi-firm trial teams involving product liability claims stemming from heavily regulated chemicals.

Prior to joining White and Williams, Felix spent over two years as the law clerk to the Honorable Sandra Mazer Moss of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, while Her Honor was Coordinating Judge of the Complex Litigation Center. As clerk, he was immersed in mass tort and complex litigation as well as matters arising in the Philadelphia Arbitration Center.

Representative Matters

  • Part of a multi-attorney team defending various insurers as national and coordinating counsel for Covid-19 business interruption claims

  • Obtained affirmance on appeal in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals of a summary judgment ruling in favor of insurer on insurance claim of commercial card lock fueling facility for an extended series of individual fuel thefts by a trucking company

  • Obtained affirmance on appeal in the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals of a summary judgment ruling absolving a defendant insurer of any duty to defend and/or indemnify with respect to an underlying ERISA liability class action against a large defense contractor in a “related claims” case. See Northrop Grumman Corp. v. AXIS Reins. Co., et al., No. 1:17-CV-01738, 2018 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 183804 (D. Del. Oct. 26, 2018), aff’d, No. 19-1949, 2020 U.S. App. LEXIS 12903 (3d Cir. Apr. 22, 2020)

  • Obtained summary judgment from the Eastern District of Pennsylvania court involving a breach of contract and bad faith claim against an insurer

  • Represented, and extensively worked with, shipbuilder defendant’s parent corporation in defending a construction accident matter in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas involving a plaintiff’s attempt to circumvent the employer’s workers’ compensation bar

  • Assisted in defending corporate manufacturer as part of multi-law firm trial teams in multiple toxic tort/products’ liability trials in Missouri and California state courts over allegations that exposure to an industrial chemical caused cancer
  • Assisted in defending corporate manufacturer in multi-state suits and class actions brought by municipalities claiming trace amount of industrial chemicals in school buildings were volatilizing from building products and endangering children and staff

Recognition & Involvement

Felix Yelin is the current Chancellor of the Louis D. Brandeis Law Society, an active Jewish affinity bar in Philadelphia. Felix was also the co-chair of the 35th Annual Jewish Law Day Committee. The event was created in 1982 by an ad hoc committee of lawyers and judges together with VAAD: The Board of Rabbis of Greater Philadelphia in order to establish an annual celebration commemorating the seminal contribution of Jewish Law to the development of American jurisprudence.

Felix was selected in a survey of his peers as a Pennsylvania "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers in 2018 and 2020. Felix received 2021 Best Lawyers: Ones To Watch recognition for his work in Product Liability Litigation - Defendants. Over his career, he has enjoyed mentoring younger attorneys and law students. He has also moderated some virtual events hosted by the Louis D. Brandeis Law Society, including a CLE on Pennsylvania Rule of Professional Conduct 8.4(g), examining a recently-adopted rule on attorney misconduct and First Amendment free speech implications.
