Alex Hammershaimb is an associate in the commercial litigation department. Alex’s practice focuses primarily on complex insurance coverage, bad faith, and commercial litigation matters. He has handled insurance coverage and bad faith matters, and helped to author insurance coverage opinions, involving complex coverage issues, including professional liability, construction defect, educator’s legal liability, advertising injury/intellectual property, life insurance, bad faith litigation, and commercial contract disputes.

Alex was previously an associate in the Subrogation Department and practiced specifically in the field of insurance subrogation. He assisted in litigating cases involving products liability, negligence, construction defect, fire, and fidelity losses. 

During law school, Alex worked as a clerk at the Consumer Bankruptcy Assistance Project. He also served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable James J. Fitzgerald III, senior judge of the Pennsylvania Superior Court. Alex’s other public interest experiences earned him the award of Fellow in the Rubin Public Interest Society at Temple Law School.  

Representative Matters

  • Succeeded in negotiating favorable settlement before Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on behalf of insurer in bad faith claim asserting wrongful denial of coverage
  • Prosecuted insurance coverage declaratory judgment action on behalf of primary insurer seeking to deny coverage for claims of abuse
  • Defended pest control company and negotiated favorable settlement in professional negligence case before Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas
  • Prosecuted insurance coverage declaratory judgment action on behalf of primary insurer seeking to deny coverage to insured for lack of cooperation and failure to provide notice as required under the policy

Recognition & Involvement

Alex also works with the Pennsylvania Innocence Project on pro bono matters involving the representation of wrongfully incarcerated inmates throughout Pennsylvania. Alex also serves as a volunteer admissions officer for Tufts University by interviewing prospective students for admission to the university.
