Ciaran’s practice is focused on representing insurance, reinsurance, and corporate clients in commercial disputes. In addition to litigating in federal and state courts, she is also experienced arbitrating matters before panels of industry experts. Ciaran is excellent at analyzing and distilling complex issues to make concise arguments that are persuasive to both industry experts and juries.

Ciaran has arbitrated reinsurance disputes involving issues related to follow-the-fortunes, accumulation of claims (including environmental, sexual molestation and asbestos claims), applicability of the aggregate extension clause and recoverability of declaratory judgment expenses. 

Ciaran also regularly arbitrates and litigates cases for insurance and corporate clients. She has arbitrated cases under the AAA and UNCITRAL rules on matters ranging from D&O coverage disputes to breached manufacturing and supply agreements. Additionally, she represents major property and casualty insurers in complex long-tail coverage matters.

Representative Matters

  • Obtained favorable ruling on behalf of ceding company in a complex reinsurance arbitration involving the accumulation of multiple underlying claims

  • Reached a favorable settlement in a dispute over manufacturing contract’s pricing and exclusivity terms in a Hong Kong-based arbitration  

  • Obtained summary judgment in favor of a seller in a commercial real estate transaction involving a large tract of undeveloped land. The summary judgment ruling confirmed that the agreement of sale had terminated and the seller was entitled to keep $200,000 in deposits.
  • Second chaired a 6-day jury trial in federal court representing the defendant resort and obtained a defense verdict. The plaintiffs demanded in excess of $1M before trial
  • Obtained dismissal of a civil RICO action for a lending institution

Recognition & Involvement

Ciaran currently serves on the firm’s Associate Development Committee. She also regularly volunteers with the PA Senior Law Center and advises senior citizens on a variety of legal issues through the Center’s Helpline.
