Andrée Laney is an accomplished employment law advisor and advocate with a practice devoted to workplace issues from recruitment to separation. She represents employers in federal and state court litigation, arbitrations, mediations, and administrative proceedings on claims of wrongful termination, discrimination, breach of contract, whistleblower/SOX retaliation, wage and hour violations, defamation and other workplace-related issues.

Andrée assists clients in developing strategic plans to minimize litigation risks of proposed employment actions and monitors compliance with anti-discrimination laws and corporate policies. In addition to litigating employment related disputes, she instructs management and HR on internal investigations, family/medical leaves, disability accommodations, background checks, employment eligibility verification and responses to requests for personnel/medical records

Serving as a former senior trial attorney and judge for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Andrée has litigated employment discrimination cases in federal court, as well as conducted hearings and resolved discrimination charges brought by federal employees against all federal agencies. 

Additionally, she served as Employment Counsel/Labor Relations Director for the City of New York's transportation department, where she counseled management on personnel on employee-relations issues. She has also served as counsel at several major law firms in the NY Metropolitan area. Andrée also provides on-site compliance training and teaches HR law courses.

Representative Matters

  • Provided day-to-day legal counsel for entire Midwest region, sales and CFO business groups of 17,000-employee broker-dealer unit of global investment firm with $83 billion revenue
  • Successfully defended all assigned discrimination charges (approx. 24 over 4 years) of assigned region (of 17,000-employee company) to findings of no merit; resolved several other internal complaints and lawyer’s letters without litigation, saving company in excess of $3.6 mil
  • Trained 200+ attorneys, management and employees nationally while at the EEOC. Prosecuted violations of federal anti-discrimination laws in federal district court
  • Counseled management of a 6,800-employee city agency with a $300M personnel services budget on employee-relations issues, including discipline, legal compliance, drug testing, union grievances, safety, overtime, and benefits. Implemented, interpreted, and monitored compliance with collective bargaining agreements of over 25 trade union locals

Recognition & Involvement

Andrée is an adjunct professor at Rutgers Business School. An avid art lover, Andrée has served on the boards of the Donald Byrd dance group in New York and the Luna Stage Theater in New Jersey. She also has volunteered with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.
