White and Williams Settles Multi-Plaintiff Case Following Fire

White and Williams filed suit against a Bayonne, New Jersey landlord seeking to recover for fire and smoke damage to two neighboring properties after a fire occurred in one of the landlord’s apartments. The fire caused over $1,000,000 in property damage to the neighboring properties. In the complaint, Partner, Bill Schmidt, alleged, among other things, that the landlord acted negligently with respect to maintaining the gas service installation in an apartment after the landlord evicted one of its tenants. The tenant living in the apartment at the time of the fire was also injured. Mr. Schmidt, assisted by Joe Kuffler and Bill Doerler, negotiated a settlement of the property damage claims – a settlement that included the injured tenant’s personal injury claim - securing 80% of the landlord’s insurance policy limits to cover the subrogating property insurers’ claims.
