William Sawyer has decades of experience counseling private and public business entities on diverse issues relating to structure, capital formation, financing, management, governance, taxation, dispute avoidance and resolution and performance. He specializes in common sense, cost-effective solutions to thorny business problems.
Bill has assisted in the creation of a number of successful business ventures in technical and other fields, and assisted in their growth, including the raising and documentation of their financing and their ultimate public financing. He has also participated in a number of successful efforts to return troubled corporations to success, and the merger and acquisitions of others. And he has actively engaged in the creation and management of business entities in Mexico.
Bill has served on the Boards of, and held offices in, numerous for-profit and eleemosynary entities and organizations. Bill has been politically active for many years. In 1990, he was the Republican candidate for Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and in 1980, he was the Republican candidate for the Massachusetts 5th Congressional District.
Representative Matters
- Helped inventors find the financing and administrative support that enabled successful start-ups
- Participated in the successful concentration of an industry by the acquisition of what had been a multitude of separate companies
- Assisted in public offerings, securing resources needed for growth and allowing the holders of the company’s securities needed diversification of their asset base
- Participated in innumerable bank and private financings, secured and unsecured
- Represented family and other closely held businesses as well as those that are broadly held
Recognition & Involvement
Bill has served on the Board of Selectmen for the town of Acton, where he lives, and served a year as Chairman. He is also a Life Member of the Massachusetts Selectmen’s Association. He has served as Chairman of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (Greater Boston), President of the Massachusetts Association of Regional Planning Agencies, and on the Board of the National Association of Regional Planning Agencies. He has received the Regional Leadership Award of the Regional Planning Councils and Commissions of New England.
He also served as Captain in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1958.
