Platte Moring, III focuses his practice on commercial, insurance and bad faith litigation. 

Platte’s civil trial practice is primarily insurance defense litigation.  He provides insurance coverage opinions as well as extensive litigation experience in property and casualty claims.  Platte has represented several hospitals and their staff physicians in medical malpractice litigation in Northeastern Pennsylvania. 

Having previously served as a Law Clerk to the United States Court of International Trade and Trial Attorney for the United States Department of Justice in the international trade section, Platte advises clients on the enforcement of customs fraud statutes and the anti-dumping and countervailing duty laws.

More recently, Platte has had considerable experience in the Orphans’ Court, litigating matters involving contested wills, estates and inter vivos gifts.  Additionally, he has experience in litigation concerning all aspects of the Marcellus Shale natural gas deposit in Pennsylvania, including oil and gas leases, pipeline agreements, seismic testing permits, royalty disputes, independent contractor unemployment and discrimination claims.  Platte also has represented landmen, geophysical seismic testing companies, natural gas producers and  landowners. 

Platte tried the first jury trial ever in the United States Court of International Trade. While serving as a United States Attorney with the Department of Justice, he obtained civil penalties against an importer of prohibited merchandise in violation of Section 592 of the Tariff Act of 1930. 

While in law school, Platte wrote articles published in the Vanderbilt Law Review and Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law.

  • Represents major automobile insurance company statewide in Pennsylvania Bad Faith cases
  • Tried cases in Orphan’s Court involving will contests, estates and inter vivos gifts
  • Obtained jury verdicts in state and federal courts involving customs fraud, medical malpractice, personal injury and disability insurance
  • Represents landmen, landowners and seismic testing companies in Marcellus Shale litigation

Recognition & Involvement

Platte earned a Bronze Star as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard while serving in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
