Kurt Kramer has over 20 years of experience in commercial, tort, professional liability, premises liability, employment and insurance coverage litigation, with a particular emphasis on representation of commercial clients in complex litigation. Kurt has tried numerous cases to verdict in multiple state and federal courts throughout the greater mid-Atlantic region.
In addition to the general representation of insured and self-insured business entities, Kurt has specialized experience in counseling and representing clients in the construction industry, various manufacturing industries, the security guard business and the electronic security alarm industry. Representative clients in the alarm and security industry include guard companies, alarm dealers, systems integrators, manufacturers, distributors, wholesale monitoring centers and insurance companies. This specialty practice includes all phases of representation, from corporate work to contract litigation to tort defense.
Additionally, he represents creditors in bankruptcy actions, including actions for relief from stay, preference actions and workouts.
Kurt understands that efficient long-term representation of clients requires a thorough understanding of their business and the industries they operate in. Whether through membership in applicable trade groups, participation in trade events or direct client involvement, he seeks to develop this knowledge to best meet client needs.
Kurt is also involved with, and holds, leadership positions in several professional organizations. He is a member and past Secretary of the Philadelphia Bar Association's State Civil Commitee as well as a member of the Philadelphia Bar's Labor and Employment Law Committee. He is on the Board of Directors and past Treasurer of the John Peter Zenger Law Society. Kurt is also a member, past treasurer and past secretary of ASIS International's South Jersey Chapter.
Kurt has served as a Judge pro temp in the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County since 1999. He has also been engaged as local counsel in complex litigation matters by major national law firms. Prior to joining White and Williams, Kurt was a founding partner of the law firm of Tannenbaum and Chanin, LLP.
Representative Matters
- Summary judgment on behalf of security company in a consolidated action of 17 separate suits arising from a $55 million commercial fire loss with subsequent recovery of defense costs from the primary co-defendant’s insurer
- Prosecution of a $7.3 million breach of contract claim with the verdict being found non dischargeable in the defendant company’s president’s subsequent personal bankruptcy
- Successful defense of guard company following six week trial in wrongful death action arising from alleged negligent security at a hospital garage
- Prosecution to verdict of steel erector’s claim for delay damages and contract changes associated with multi-million dollar government construction project
- Verdict in favor of enforcement of non-compete/non-solicitation contract provisions for security alarm aggregator
- Successful defense of various religious orders in Delaware state child abuse litigation
- Representation of various businesses in actions to enforce contractual and insurance indemnity rights
Recognition & Involvement
Aside from his law practice, Kurt is involved in the community at-large. He is Chair of the Licensing and Safety Committee for the Deer Park Campground Board of Directors, is a member of the German Society and on the advisory board of the Community of Christ mid-Atlantic Mission Center.
