Joe Foster is a veteran trial lawyer specializing in medical malpractice defense, defending insurance carriers in coverage disputes and bad faith claims, products liability defense, and the like. He has been practicing law for over 50 years and has held numerous positions within the firm and legal community at large.
Joe has coordinated over 40 McGillin’s meetings - in-house CLE programs for White and Williams lawyers - where district attorneys, judges, state representatives, and other dignitaries have presented on various topics.
After graduating from law school, Joe spent two years in the Army as a hospital judge advocate and then served as Law Clerk to the Honorable T. McKeen Chidsey, Pennsylvania Supreme Court in 1956.
He serves as a judge pro tem in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.
Throughout his career, Joe has been involved in many legal and business organizations, holding leadership positions with many of them. He is a past Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, a former President of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute and former vice-chair of the Supreme Court Rules Committee. He is also a former President of the Lawyers Club of Philadelphia. Joe is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Trial Advocates.
Representative Matters
- Represented insurer of a company at trial and reduced a $1 million settlement offer to a verdict of $3,000 in a case involving a drunk driver who ran a red light and admitted to being liable
- Represented the insurer of a belt loader manufacturer in a claim by a baggage handler who was hurt on the job at Philadelphia International Airport
- Represented an insurer in a claimed defective helmet case arising from a horseback riding accident
Recognition & Involvement
Joe has been selected in a survey of his peers as a Pennsylvania "Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics magazine in 2004 and 2006 through 2010. He has also been AV® rated by the Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating system. Joe is also one of a distinguished group of attorneys who have now been listed in Best Lawyers for twenty-five years or longer.
