Guy is a senior litigator with a broad range of experience handling cutting edge issues in insurance coverage, bad faith and commercial litigation.  For over 30 years, he has represented and advised insurance, reinsurance and business clients in the resolution of complex disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and/or litigation.

Guy has served as national coordinating counsel for major property and casualty insurers on diverse issues ranging from asbestos, environmental and other long-term exposure claims to financial products such as residual value, gap and mortgage guarantee insurance. 

Known for his creative strategy and negotiating skills, Guy has tried to verdict over a dozen complex coverage matters in a half dozen different jurisdictions around the country.  He has also been lead counsel in cases of first impression at various appellate levels, obtaining major wins for the insurance industry on, among other things, allocation issues in Massachusetts and New Jersey. 

Guy is a frequent lecturer on insurance coverage, mediation and trial tactic topics at various legal and industry meetings and conferences. 

Representative Matters

  • Represented insurance client before Massachusetts Supreme Court, obtaining broadest possible allocation of loss based on time on the risk, pro rata approach and reversing prior Appeals Court precedent
  • Represented insurance client on appeal to First Circuit Court of Appeals in reversing jury verdict in environmental coverage action on owned property and allocation issues and obtaining certification of allocation question to Massachusetts Supreme Court despite prior appellate precedent
  • Represented insurance client in multiple jury trials involving environmental claims
  • Resolved series of complex disputes over residual value policies involving litigation in five separate jurisdictions, reinsurance and insolvency proceedings
  • Represented insurance client before New Jersey Supreme Court, obtaining ruling on allocation that adjusted pro-rata time on the risk approach to calculate by days or weeks versus years when dealing with stub periods

Recognition & Involvement

Guy was selected in a survey of his peers as a Pennsylvania "Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics magazine from 2004-2009, 2011 and 2012.  He is also AVĀ® rated by the Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating system.
