Christine Russell is a member of the Reinsurance Group and represents business clients in a wide range of complex commercial litigation matters. Throughout her career, Christine’s practice has been heavily concentrated in the areas of insurance and reinsurance, and is presently focused exclusively in the area of reinsurance. She has tried in court, and/or arbitration, a broad array of reinsurance issues on behalf of both cedents and reinsurers. Christine has arbitrated at least 15 matters through full hearing, has handled innumerable others that were successfully resolved short of that, and is well-known and well-regarded in the reinsurance arbitration arena. She also regularly counsels clients on reinsurance issues and problems outside of a formal dispute resolution mode.
In the area of other commercial contracts, Christine has experience litigating matters concerning large equipment leases, software licensing agreements, shipper-carrier agreements, construction contracts and telecommunication services agreements, among other types of contracts.
Christine is frequently invited to speak to clients on various reinsurance topics.
While in law school, Christine was research editor of the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law.
Representative Matters
- Represented property casualty company in recovering reinsurance for asbestos claims under clash reinsurance treaties
- Obtained declaratory judgments on behalf of several ceding companies requiring reinsurers to reimburse payment of asbestos claims
- Successfully defeated Bellefonte-type argument by reinsurer
- Advised ceding company client on holistic approach to combating recalcitrant reinsurer problems
