$600,000 Jury Verdict Obtained in Federal Court in Boston

In August 2015, Brian Tetro secured a $600,000 unanimous jury verdict as lead trial counsel for our client in a three-day careless smoking subrogation case in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Our client insured the home which burned down from the fire – the defendant was the insured’s mother-in-law. The defendant was performing nanny duties for the insured’s children on the date of the fire. The case was built solely on circumstantial evidence, and the defendant denied ever smoking in the area of origin.  The defendant’s highest offer was $25,000. The parties stipulated that our client’s damages were $500,000; in exchange for taking a small reduction on pre-judgment interest, the defendant agreed to waive all rights of appeal, so the total recovery was $600,000.
