The China Business Practice Group consists of a multi-disciplinary team of White and Williams attorneys that assist clients with comprehensive domestic and international strategic planning and the pursuit of business opportunities in China. This team works closely with clients to form and structure ventures between U.S. and strategic partners in China. With over 230 attorneys, White and Williams regularly advises clients on a broad range of business matters including U.S. and international business transactions, tax and regulatory compliance. White and Williams has developed strong relationships with an expanding network of professional advisors in China and throughout the world to help clients pursue business and establish ventures abroad. Most recently, White and Williams formed a strategic alliance with the Xue Law Firm, a ten attorney commercial practice firm based in Shanghai, China, to allow the firm to better serve U.S. companies going to China, and to provide a venue for serving China-based companies seeking to make investments in the United States. In addition, White and Williams attorneys regularly work with other advisors in China and elsewhere in Southeast Asia to assist businesses in forming strategic partnerships and pursuing business opportunities in that region. Gary P. Biehn, Chair of the Business Department and head of the China Business Practice Group has participated in several trade missions to China and is a member of the Mid-Atlantic District Export Council. Mr. Biehn is regularly asked to speak on issues relating to doing business in China and global transactions generally. Chunsheng Lu, an associate in the Business Department, is fluent in Chinese and is licensed to practice law in both China and the United States. Chunsheng spent 10 weeks in July and August of 2006 working out of the Xue Law Firm's Shanghai office and will continue to work out of there for extended periods of time in 2007. |
