Mr. Allen is a partner in the Commercial Litigation Department and Co-Chair of the Reinsurance Practice Group. Since 1988, he has had a broad range of experience in complex insurance and reinsurance litigation, arbitrations, mediations, and transactions. From 1975 to 1988 Mr. Allen tried a wide variety of commercial cases, including trials concerning insurance (third party and first party), malpractice, real estate, partnership dissolution, banking, securities, antitrust, employment, trade secret, construction and other areas.
Mr. Allen represents major insurance and reinsurance companies on a national basis. His practice includes representation in state and federal trials, as well as many private arbitrations. He advises insurance and reinsurance clients concerning issues of policy, major transactions, and dispute avoidance and resolution.
Mr. Allen was a member of the Board of Directors of ARIAS-U.S. from 1997 to 2004, and has been a speaker at RAA, ARIAS-U.S., British Insurance Law Association, Andrews, Excess and Surplus Lines, Environmental Claims Managers Association, PBI, Intermediaries and Reinsurance Underwriters Association, CPCU, and Mealey's conferences on a variety of topics concerning reinsurance and dispute resolution. Mr. Allen is active in Philadelphia's political watchdog organization, the Committee of Seventy, and in his church. He was selected in a survey of his peers as a Pennsylvania "Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics magazine in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Mr. Allen has been AV rated by the Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating system.
Mr. Allen received his B.S. in 1971 from Harvard University. He received his J.D. in 1975 from Duke University School of Law. He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and California. Mr. Allen is also admitted to appear before the Supreme Court of the United States, Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, United States Court of Appeals for the Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Circuits, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and United States District Court for the Districts of New Jersey and New York. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, Philadelphia Bar Association, and Excess, Surplus Lines and Reinsurance Committee of the ABA
