Kevin Cottone Appears Before PA House Majority Committee on Proposed Repeal of Medical Malpractice Venue Rule

Kevin Cottone, Chair of the Healthcare Group, appeared before the Pennsylvania House Majority Policy Committee at a public hearing on Thursday, February 14 regarding the proposal to repeal the medical malpractice venue rule.

In response to the Committee's comment that the decreased number of malpractice filings in Pennsylvania has "resulted in a decrease of the amount of claim payments resulting in far fewer compensated victims of medical negligence," Kevin said, "there simply is no evidence of the source of the report to the committee, the purported amount of decrease in claim payments and, most importantly, that there are uncompensated victims of medical negligence."

Following the hearing, the Supreme Court announced they would not take any action on the proposed rule change until it had the opportunity to review the report of Legislative Budget and Finance Committee ordered by the Senate resolution.
